Part 4

Paul writes to a church split down the middle and tells them the dividing wall is already gone. So what are we still guarding?

Stories

Heard in the lobby

Real moments from the people who make up Confluence. Names shared with permission.

My daughter got baptized and I tagged along, sitting in the very back row. Two years later I am out in the lot every Sunday at 8:15 with the parking team.

Portrait of Gloria, smiling

I moved across town after forty years in one house and knew nobody. The Tuesday group in Lawrenceville found me before I found them.

James laughing with his young son on his shoulders

Our son came seven weeks early. People we barely knew brought dinner for six weeks straight. That was when it stopped feeling like a building.

Our pastors

Marcus & Elena Reid

Marcus and Elena started Confluence in 2009 with twelve people, a borrowed keyboard and their Lawrenceville living room. Marcus grew up in Beechview. Elena came for grad school and never left.

They still teach most Sundays, still answer their own email and still say the best part of Sunday is the hallway afterward.

What we hold on to

Four things that shape every room, every budget and every Sunday.

Jesus first

We point to Jesus before we point to programs. Everything else is a way to help people meet him.

Neighbors, not visitors

Our buildings belong to the blocks around them. The doors open on weekdays too.

Small inside big

Nobody should have to stay anonymous. Groups and teams are where a big church gets personal.

Give it away

Ten cents of every dollar leaves the building the same month, to partners across the city.
